Ecobeauty – embrace the curl

Living a Sustainable Lifestyle Helped me Embrace my Natural, Curly Hair

You may be thinking: How do curly hair and living a sustainable lifestyle relate to each other at all? After reading this article, you will understand exactly why and how. Vegan curly hair enthusiast Gabriella Herrera, who lives in Canada – describes her journey to a sustainable lifestyle, and how it helped her to embrace her natural, curly hair.

Vegan, Curly Hair Enthusiast Gabriella Herrera

Gabriella Herrera is a Colombian-Canadian millennial who lives in Vancouver, BC. She has gained popularity on Instagram and TikTok in the past few months. Her videos outline her sustainable lifestyle and how she cares for her naturally curly hair in an eco-conscious way. We visited Gabriella at her Vancouver home last week, where she gave us a tour of her organic garden and spoke with us in-depth about her journey.

Her journey begins when she was only 14 years old.

“We had just moved to Canada from Colombia. I was getting to that age where I started to care more about my appearance. My parents didn’t have a lot of money, so my mom would buy just about any shampoo that was on sale and it wasn’t always made for curly hair. She would also put coconut oil on my hair after I got out of the shower, but that was the extent of my hair care routine. My hair was frizzy and out of control. I started to straighten my hair every day for school.”

Curly Hair, Vegan and Sustainable Living

When Gabriella started college at age 19, she became more active on social media.

“I started to become active in the vegan and sustainability communities. Environmental issues became something I was very passionate about and I learned to cook vegan recipes. I started to purchase only from companies who were cruelty-free and used natural ingredients. My new lifestyle made me realize that I wanted to be natural in as many ways as possible. I didn’t know how to do that with my curly hair.”

Now, at age 27, Gabriella is working as a Human Resources specialist in Vancouver.

“Once I graduated college, no longer reliant on my parents and earning a decent salary, I started to think about how I could invest in my hair care, but I wanted to support a company that shared my values of being sustainable and ethical. Not only for the planet, but for people and animals as well.”

Gabriella embraces the curl with Ecobeauty’s Curly Hair Shampoo

She began to research brands that had curly hair shampoo that was both vegan and sustainable in Canada.

“I discovered Ecobeauty and their new embrace the curl hair care line. It was important to me that my hair care products were both vegan and cruelty-free, which Ecobeauty’s products are. I tried their curly hair shampoo first. I started to see the improvements after only a few washes. Then I picked up the conditioner, curl enhancer cream, and the other products in the line.”

Gabriella explains the unique benefits that she experiences from using Ecobeauty curly hair products.

“What’s unique about their curly hair care line is that they use only natural, plant-derived ingredients that are ethically and sustainably sourced. The plant-derived ingredients allow me to care for and maintain my curly hair in a natural way, while also caring for the planet, people, and animals”.

We appreciate Gabriella for taking the time to speak with us about her sustainable hair care journey. If you want to see how she uses Ecobeauty’s products on her curly hair, you can follow her on Instagram and TikTok.
